Happy new year!

Today is the first day of my ballet class in 2026. This term, I will be doing weekly contemporary dance introduction lessons in addition to my weekly ballet lessons.

As I completed this first lesson, there was a moment in my mind that I don’t think I would want to do any more posts or other things. It is not because I find this activity tedious. Rather, it is because this first lesson has given me a lot of clarity in my ballet journey. I can see that my focus and everything is different. I can see myself doing pointe classes, as the demi pointe movements are not as difficult as last term. I also have a better balance now 🤹. I can see how I will benefit from repeating the introduction lesson again or moving to the improver lessons. I am happy that I have gained this clarity. Compared to the previous term, now I feel a lot more comfortable and confident with the movements and memorising the steps. I can see how my focus is different this round from the last round. I can enjoy it and focus on improving the techniques this time. I like my teacher and I am certain that I like doing more ballet. Even though I did not remember much before the lesson, my muscle memory has been working throughout the lesson today to pick up various things.

At the same time, I think it is worth continue doing my dance journaling over here. I am not there yet. I want to be on pointe one day. There are some daily exercises and tips I can keep in mind (such as my body orientation) even when I am not actively dancing everyday. I am also starting my contemporary dance lesson this Saturday. I hope that I can progress to improver lessons for both dances.

Anyway, my new year resolution for dance is to do at least two weekly dance classes (one ballet and another contemporary dance) and progress to the improver classes for both dance classes. With my current demi pointe progress, I can also look forward to starting my pointe journey by taking a pre pointe lesson. I look forward to embracing this journey 🩰.
