Today we practiced similar steps. During today’s practice, I understand that I am not good at balancing. It is a bit difficult to do it off the barre, especially at the centre. It is hard to balance just with one leg when I am doing these steps. I then asked the teacher about how to practice it after lesson and he gave me a few useful tips. One of them is to practice standing with one leg for 30 seconds, and then I can improve it by placing the other leg in somewhere higher and higher once I got used to it. I also shared my goal of wanting to be on pointe one day with him. He was surprised at first and then said that I would have to protect myself and continue to be taking classes to improve my skills.
To be honest, this made me wonder whether I would have to increase the frequency of my ballet class from taking one weekly class to two weekly classes. I also wondered whether the decision of jumping into contemporary dance right now is a right one or not, as I could have chosen to take two weekly ballet classes instead. However, I think the most important thing for me is to have this hobby (ballet + contemporary dance) introduced in my life. Once I got used to them and liked them, I can always strengthen my existing skills.
Next week, it will be our last weekly classes. I plan to spend potentially three hours to do at home exercises of the online lessons at the same studio for one week (for around three hours). Or I could potentially do the online ballet lesson this Saturday morning and do the contemporary dance on the Monday after my last weekly ballet class. I will see.
As I approach to the end of the term, I can already clearly see how adding this weekly routine into my life has brighten up my life. I feel more confident. I can clearly see how I have become more energetic and positive with the routine. I know that this is a hobby and routine that costs money, but I want this hobby/routine to stick with me for a really long time. I will take this journey slowly but surely, patiently and persistently!
